Past Projects
This section highlights collaborative art therapy and community-based projects I’ve facilitated or contributed to over the years. Each project reflects the power of art as a tool for expression, connection, and collective action. Click on a project to learn more about its purpose, process, and impact.
This project was a collaborative, arts-based research initiative using a Mindful Arts-Based Photovoice Protocol to explore Iranian women’s experiences of discrimination, censorship, and oppression, and how these experiences affect their mental health, both in Iran and after migrating to the U.S.
Working with five Iranian women, we developed shared goals and weekly photography prompts inspired by art therapy practices. Over ten sessions, participants explored themes of trauma, resistance, hope for the future, and life after migration. Many described the group as a space where they felt validated, understood, and more connected to one another. The process also supported emotional insight, self-expression, and community building.
The project culminated in an art exhibition at a Persian rug gallery, featuring photography, collage, drawings, zines, Khatam, and contemporary Iranian music. Visitors were invited to respond through their own art, contributing to a community mural. This created a powerful space for dialogue and collective reflection on the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.
The project aimed to amplify Iranian women’s voices and inspire new ways to support their fight against gendered oppression through art, storytelling, research, and an exhibition.
