What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a open, creative, welcoming, and supportive way to explore your feelings and experiences using visual art mediums, like drawing, painting, sculpting, collage, and more. It may help you express thoughts and emotions that could be hard to put into words. It can reduce stress. It can also bring about new perspectives that you may not have thought about before because it uses a different part of your brain to process.
Experience with art making is not necessary. It is more about the process of creating and letting loose what you may have been holding on to. This process can help to build coping skills and understand, identify, and articulate challenging emotions. Everyone, at any age or ability level, can benefit from this process of reflection, expression, and growth.

This photo is an example from a past art therapy project, depicting someone holding multiple identities within society, at home, and within their mind, feeling as if they are living within the shadows for safety and acceptance feeling challenged by society's expectations and laws versus pursuing one’s desire for authentic self-expression.
